Upholstery and lounge cleaning
Upholstery cleaning across the
Northern Rivers and the Tweed
Upholstery cleaning that follows the fabric code, not a formula
Everyone sits in the same spot. You can see exactly where. Lounges, armchairs, ottomans and dining chairs cleaned in your home, to the code on the label rather than to a formula, so your sofa is not the experiment. Easy to book, fast quoting, cost effective.
Book alongside your carpet cleanUpholstery cleaning is the deep cleaning of soft furniture in your home: lounges, armchairs, ottomans, bed heads and dining chairs. Most fabric is cleaned with a hand-held extraction tool that puts a controlled amount of solution into the fabric and draws it back out, so the cover is cleaned without being soaked. TLB Cleaning cleans upholstery across the Northern Rivers and the Tweed.
The thing that decides how a lounge is cleaned is not how dirty it is. It is the cleaning code the manufacturer put on the label, usually under a cushion or beneath the frame. W means water based cleaning is fine, S means solvent only, WS means either, and X means vacuum only and nothing wet at all. A cleaner who does not look for that tag is guessing with your furniture.
People arrive here with three questions.
Which one is yours?
-

The lounge has had a hard life
Head marks along the back, dark patches on the arms, biscuit crumbs in the seams and the faint smell of a dog who is not sorry. That is a normal family lounge and it is exactly what this service is for.

Something got spilled and I need it gone
Wine, coffee, milk, a toddler. The sooner we get to it the better the odds, and the worst thing you can do in the meantime is scrub it. Blot it and ring us.

I want to know who is in my home
You can meet the team looking after your place before the first visit. They live in your area, insured and police-checked, how we get in is agreed when you book, and you get a message when we are on the way.
Why TLB
What to do in the first ten minutes after a spill
The most expensive thing that happens to a lounge is not the spill. It is what gets done to the spill in the first ten minutes. Scrubbing at a mark drives it deeper and lifts the nap so that spot looks different forever, even after the stain is gone. A supermarket spot cleaner sprayed on undiluted leaves a ring of clean fabric with a tidemark around it, and that ring is often harder to fix than the original mark. On a water sensitive fabric, plain tap water on a cloth is enough to leave a permanent watermark.
If something goes on your lounge, blot it. Press a clean dry cloth straight down, lift, move to a dry part of the cloth, repeat. Do not rub, do not soak it, do not reach for whatever is under the sink. Then ring someone. Almost everything is recoverable when it is fresh and untouched, and a good proportion of what we cannot fix is damage from the rescue attempt rather than from the spill.
Other things we clean around the house
The jobs a regular clean never has time for. Any of them can go on the same visit.
- Carpet and rug cleaningHot water extraction for carpet, and the gentler treatment a wool rug needs.
- Mattress cleaningA dry-ish clean for the one thing in the house nobody ever washes.
- Tile and grout cleaningBathroom and kitchen grout brought back, and sealed so it stays back longer.
- Oven, BBQ and appliance cleaningOvens stripped and soaked part by part, barbecues degreased, fridges done out.
- Blinds, shutters and ceiling fansThe dusty things above eye level that a regular clean never has time for.
- Window cleaningGlass, frames, sills and tracks, inside and out, with the salt film taken off properly.
- Gutter cleaningGutters, valleys and downpipes cleared and flushed, and the debris taken away with us.
- Roof cleaningSoft washing that kills the algae and lichen at the root, on tile or colorbond.
- High pressure cleaningDriveways, paths, patios, pool surrounds and fences, at a pressure the surface can take.
- Exterior house washingWalls, eaves, soffits and window frames washed down so the whole house looks newer.
How TLB compares
A lounge is the most expensive soft thing in most houses. It is worth knowing who is about to put water on it.

Easy to book, fast quoting, cost effective
Managed for you. A date that suits you, a confirmation in writing, a message when we are on the way, and told first if anything changes.
Book online in a couple of minutes, or send a text, ring us or email, whichever you'd actually do.
Condition drives the price on work like this, so the honest answer is a fast quote rather than an instant one. Tell us what you've got and roughly what state it's in, and we'll come back with a number quickly. Photos are usually enough. If it needs eyes on it, we'll say so rather than guess.
You'll know the price before we start, not after. If the job turns out smaller than you described, we'll tell you rather than hold you to the bigger number. If it needs more time than we quoted, you'll hear that before we begin.
How it works
- Tell us about the job.
- We confirm the price and agree a time and access.
- We do the clean, and you get a message when we're on the way.
- If something needs fixing, you hear it from us first.
Booking an upholstery clean
1. How long before we can sit on it?
Usually a few hours, and comfortably by that evening. We use as little moisture as the fabric needs rather than soaking it, groom the pile back and get air moving before we go. Cushions go back on once they are properly dry, because putting a damp cushion back on a damp base is how a lounge ends up smelling worse than it started.
2. Do you clean the cushions and under them too?
Yes. Cushions are done on both sides where the fabric allows, and the frame underneath gets vacuumed out along with the seams. That is where the crumbs, coins, hair and sand live, and it makes more difference to how a lounge feels than the surface clean does.
3. What if our lounge cannot be wet cleaned?
Then we do not wet clean it. Some fabrics are solvent only and some are vacuum only, and both are common in older and imported furniture. We check the label and test before anything happens, and if your lounge is one we should not touch we will tell you and say why rather than take the job.
4. Can you get rid of the dog smell?
Usually a good way. Most of what you smell is oil and hair held in the fabric and down in the seams, and that comes out with a thorough clean. If a pet has actually wet the lounge and it has soaked through into the foam, that is harder, because a surface clean does not reach foam. We will tell you which one you have before we start.
5. What happens if I get in touch?
Tell us what the lounge is, roughly how old, and what has happened to it. We look at the label and the fabric when we arrive, test a hidden patch and give you a price. It can go on the same visit as your regular clean if that suits.
Fabric codes, leather and how often to clean
1. What do the cleaning codes on a lounge label mean?
W means water based cleaning is safe. S means solvent only, so no water at all. WS means either will do. X means vacuum only, with no cleaning agent of any kind. The tag is usually under a seat cushion or stapled beneath the frame. If a cleaner has not asked to see it, they do not yet know what they are allowed to use on your furniture.
2. How often should a lounge be cleaned?
Every twelve to eighteen months suits most households. Bring that forward to every six to twelve months with pets, small children, or a lounge that gets eaten on nightly. Vacuuming the seams and rotating the cushions every few weeks does more for how long a lounge lasts than any deep clean, because it stops grit from cutting the fibres.
3. Can you clean a leather lounge the same way?
No. Leather is not upholstery in the cleaning sense: it is a finished surface, and it is cleaned and conditioned rather than extracted. Water based upholstery methods can strip the finish and dry the hide out. Treat leather as a separate job and ask specifically whether a cleaner does it.
4. Will cleaning make my lounge look worn?
It should not, but it can reveal wear that was already there. Cleaning removes the film of soil that sits evenly over a fabric, and where the pile is genuinely flattened or abraded, usually the arms and the front seat edge, that becomes more visible once the surrounding fabric is clean again. That is existing wear showing, not new damage, and a good cleaner will point it out beforehand.
5. How much does upholstery cleaning cost?
Upholstery is usually priced per seat or per item, so a three seater, two armchairs and six dining chairs are quoted as separate line items rather than by the hour. What moves the price is the fabric, the size, the condition and whether any spot treatment is needed. That's why we quote rather than publish a flat rate that would be wrong for most homes. Tell us the basics and you'll have a price back quickly, with no obligation attached to it.
