Blinds, shutters and ceiling fans
Blind cleaning across
the Northern Rivers and the Tweed
Blind cleaning for the venetians, shutters and fans you only notice when the afternoon sun hits them. Easy to book, fast quoting, cost effective.
Get an instant quoteThis is the detail cleaning of the things above eye level: venetian and vertical blinds, roller blinds, plantation shutters, pelmets, window tracks and ceiling fan blades. Every one of them collects dust on a horizontal surface you cannot see from standing height, which is why they are invisible until low sun comes through the window and shows you all of it at once. TLB Cleaning cleans blinds, shutters and fans across the Northern Rivers and the Tweed.
It is almost always an add-on rather than a job on its own. A regular clean is scheduled around the surfaces that get used daily, so anything overhead gets done occasionally at best. Booking it once or twice a year alongside a regular visit is how most people deal with it, and it costs less than calling someone out for it separately.
People arrive here with three questions.
Which one is yours?
-

I have finally looked up
The tops of the slats, the fan blades, the pelmet and the window track. It is a slow job on a ladder with a cloth, one slat at a time, and it is the definition of a Saturday you would rather have back.

Add it to the regular clean
This is the sensible way to do it. Once or twice a year, folded into a visit that is already happening, so it never becomes the job nobody has done since you moved in.
Regular home cleaning -

I want to know who is in my home
You can meet the team looking after your place before the first visit. They live in your area, insured and police-checked, how we get in is agreed when you book, and you get a message when we are on the way.
Why TLB
Ask whether your blinds are leaving the house
There are two ways to clean a blind, and they are not the same service. In situ means it stays on the window and is cleaned in place, which is quicker and costs less and suits most dusty but otherwise sound blinds. Ultrasonic means the blind is taken down, put through a bath off site and rehung a day or two later, which gets a far better result on something greasy or genuinely neglected, and leaves you with a bare window in the meantime. Neither is better in general. Just make sure you know which one you are buying.
Most damaged blinds were damaged by cleaning
Most damaged blinds in this region are not damaged by dirt. They are damaged by someone cleaning them, and the two ways it happens are worth knowing before you spend a Saturday on a ladder. The first is water: a fabric roller or roman blind that gets wiped with a damp cloth will very often dry with a visible tidemark, and unlike a carpet there is no way to blend it out afterwards. The second is force. A venetian slat wiped hard without being supported from behind bends, and a bent slat never sits flat again, so the blind will not close properly from then on.
Ceiling fans have their own version of this. A fan blade is a balanced aerofoil, and pushing down hard on the end of one while you scrub the top of it is how a fan that ran silently for ten years starts to wobble. If you are doing it yourself, hold the blade from underneath and wipe with the other hand. If a fan already wobbles, that is an electrician or a balancing kit rather than a cleaner.
A blind and window cleaning service on the same visit
Windows are the natural partner: same rooms, same tracks, same ladder. Any of these can go on the same visit.
- Window cleaningGlass, frames, sills and tracks, inside and out, with the salt film taken off properly.

- Upholstery and lounge cleaningFabric lounges, armchairs and dining chairs, cleaned to the fabric code on the label.
- Mattress cleaningA dry-ish clean for the one thing in the house nobody ever washes.

Easy to book, fast quoting, cost effective
Managed for you. A date that suits you, a confirmation in writing, a message when we are on the way, and told first if anything changes.
Book online in a couple of minutes, or send a text, ring us or email, whichever you'd actually do.
Condition drives the price on work like this, so the honest answer is a fast quote rather than an instant one. Tell us what you've got and roughly what state it's in, and we'll come back with a number quickly. Photos are usually enough. If it needs eyes on it, we'll say so rather than guess.
You'll know the price before we start, not after. If the job turns out smaller than you described, we'll tell you rather than hold you to the bigger number. If it needs more time than we quoted, you'll hear that before we begin.
How it works
- Tell us about the job.
- We confirm the price and agree a time and access.
- We do the clean, and you get a message when we're on the way.
- If something needs fixing, you hear it from us first.
Frequently asked questions
1. Can you do this with our regular clean?
Yes, and that is how most people do it. We allow extra time on a visit that is already booked rather than sending someone out for it separately, which keeps the cost down. Once or twice a year suits most homes. Just tell us which rooms you want done when you book.
2. Do you do ceiling fans as well as blinds?
Yes, and they are usually done in the same pass, because both are overhead work in the same room. Blades are wiped top and bottom with the blade supported, and the housing and pull chain are done too. If a fan wobbles when it runs, tell us, because that is a balancing or electrical issue rather than a cleaning one.
3. What about high windows and raked ceilings?
Standard ceiling heights are routine. A raked ceiling, a stairwell void or anything that needs more than a step ladder is a different job, and we will tell you honestly if it is beyond what we can do safely rather than have someone stretch off the top rung.
4. Can you clean our fabric roller blinds?
They are dusted and spot treated rather than wet cleaned, because water marks fabric blinds permanently and a tidemark cannot be blended out afterwards. If a fabric blind is genuinely soiled rather than dusty, the honest answer is usually specialist ultrasonic cleaning or replacement, and we will say so.
5. What happens if I get in touch?
Tell us roughly how many windows, what kind of blinds and how many fans. We will give you a price and either book it in on its own or add it to your next regular clean, whichever works out better for you.
Blind, fan and curtain cleaning FAQs
1. How often should blinds be cleaned?
A quick dust every few weeks as part of normal cleaning, and a proper detailed clean once or twice a year. Bring that forward in a kitchen, where dust binds with cooking grease into a film that no longer dusts off, and near the coast or an unsealed road, where the dust load is simply higher. Regular light dusting is what stops it reaching the greasy stage.
2. What is the best way to clean venetian blinds?
Dry first, always: dust or vacuum with a brush head before anything damp goes near them, because dust plus moisture is mud. Then wipe each slat with the slat supported from behind so it cannot bend. Work from the top down so what falls lands on slats you have not done yet, and finish with the head rail, the cords and the window track underneath.
3. Can you wash fabric or roller blinds with water?
Generally no, and this is where most self-inflicted blind damage comes from. Most roller, roman and sunscreen fabrics are treated or coated, and water leaves a visible ring as it dries that cannot be blended out the way a mark on carpet can. Dry dusting and careful spot treatment are the safe options. Anything beyond that is a specialist ultrasonic clean or a replacement.
4. Why does my ceiling fan wobble after being cleaned?
Almost always because a blade got bent. Fan blades are balanced as a set, and pressing down on the end of one while scrubbing the top is enough to put a slight bend in it, which shows up as a wobble as soon as the fan runs. Support the blade from underneath while you wipe. A fan that already wobbles needs a balancing kit or an electrician, not a cleaner.
5. How much does blind and fan cleaning cost?
Usually priced per blind and per fan, with a lower rate when a whole house is done at once or when it is added to an existing clean. Size and type move it: a wide vertical blind or a plantation shutter takes longer than a small venetian. That's why we quote rather than publish a flat rate that would be wrong for most homes. Tell us the basics and you'll have a price back quickly, with no obligation attached to it.
6. Can curtains be cleaned without taking them down?
Light dust can be vacuumed off in place with a brush head. Anything more depends on the care label: lined, blockout and sheer curtains can shrink or mark if they are washed or steamed wrong, so they usually come down for a proper clean.
