Carpet and rug cleaning
Carpet cleaning and rug cleaning across the Northern Rivers and the Tweed
The carpet holds everything the house walks in. Carpet cleaning and rug cleaning for homes across the Northern Rivers and the Tweed. Stairs and rugs included. We test the fibre before we start, and tell you what will lift before you pay. Easy to book, fast quoting, cost effective.
Book your clean onlineCarpet and rug cleaning is the deep cleaning of soft floor coverings in your home, usually by hot water extraction, which pushes heated water and cleaning solution into the pile under pressure and draws it straight back out with the soil. It lifts the grit, oils, sand and pet hair that vacuuming leaves behind. TLB Cleaning cleans carpet and rugs across the Northern Rivers and the Tweed.
Carpet steam cleaning and hot water extraction are two names for the same method. Rugs are the part people get wrong: a fitted synthetic carpet and a loose wool rug are not the same job, they do not take the same water or the same chemistry, and a rug that is cleaned like carpet is how you end up with shrinkage, bleeding dyes or a browned fringe.
People arrive here with three questions.
Which one is yours?
-

It looks grey and I know it is not clean
The path from the door to the sofa, the patch under the coffee table, sand that never quite vacuums out. One extraction clean lifts most of it. We will tell you honestly which marks are in the fibre for good.

I want it done with the regular clean
Most homes settle on carpet once a year and rugs as they need it. We can fold it into your regular clean so it happens on schedule instead of when someone finally notices.

I want to know who is in my home
You can meet the team looking after your place before the first visit. They live in your area, insured and police-checked, how we get in is agreed when you book, and you get a message when we are on the way.
Why TLB
What a low carpet quote usually leaves out
A bad carpet clean and a good one look the same when the van drives away. The difference shows up about three weeks later. Over-wetting leaves moisture down in the backing, and on this coast, in a humid February, that is how you get a smell that will not shift and mould underneath a carpet that looks perfectly fine from above. Too much detergent left behind is a slower problem: it stays tacky, grabs the next lot of dirt, and the traffic lanes come back darker than they were before you paid to have them cleaned.
So the question worth asking any carpet cleaner is not the price per room. It is what they do about drying, what they will do differently on a wool rug, and whether they will tell you before they start that a mark is permanent. We would rather lose the job than shrink your rug, and we would rather say a stain is staying than take your money and hope.
End of lease carpet cleaning
If the carpet is being cleaned because the keys are going back, the standard is not your standard. It is whatever the outgoing inspection asks for, and some leases name professional carpet cleaning specifically. We give you a receipt that says what was done, because that is usually the thing the agent actually wants to see.
Worth knowing before you book: a bond clean and a carpet clean are two different jobs, and carpet is often the part people forget until the inspection is already booked. If you need both, it is cheaper and faster to have them done on the same visit than to bring two lots of people through an empty house.
Other things we clean around the house
The jobs a regular clean never has time for. Any of them can go on the same visit.
- Upholstery and lounge cleaningFabric lounges, armchairs and dining chairs, cleaned to the fabric code on the label.
- Mattress cleaningA dry-ish clean for the one thing in the house nobody ever washes.
- Tile and grout cleaningBathroom and kitchen grout brought back, and sealed so it stays back longer.
- Oven, BBQ and appliance cleaningOvens stripped and soaked part by part, barbecues degreased, fridges done out.
- Blinds, shutters and ceiling fansThe dusty things above eye level that a regular clean never has time for.
How TLB compares
Anyone can run a machine over a floor once. What is harder is being the people you can ring next year, who remember which rug is the good one.

Easy to book, fast quoting, cost effective
Managed for you. A date that suits you, a confirmation in writing, a message when we are on the way, and told first if anything changes.
Book online in a couple of minutes, or send a text, ring us or email, whichever you'd actually do.
Condition drives the price on work like this, so the honest answer is a fast quote rather than an instant one. Tell us what you've got and roughly what state it's in, and we'll come back with a number quickly. Photos are usually enough. If it needs eyes on it, we'll say so rather than guess.
You'll know the price before we start, not after. If the job turns out smaller than you described, we'll tell you rather than hold you to the bigger number. If it needs more time than we quoted, you'll hear that before we begin.
How it works
- Tell us about the job.
- We confirm the price and agree a time and access.
- We do the clean, and you get a message when we're on the way.
- If something needs fixing, you hear it from us first.
Booking a carpet clean
1. How long until we can walk on it?
A few hours for normal walking in socks, and back to normal by the end of the day. We groom the pile so it dries evenly and get air moving before we leave. If it is a humid week we will say so and suggest you leave a fan running, because on this coast that matters more than it does anywhere else.
2. Do we have to move all the furniture?
No. We move what two people can lift safely, clean underneath and put it back. Beds, wardrobes and anything full of books stay where they are and we clean around them. If you want the room done wall to wall, clear it before we arrive and tell us when you book.
3. Can you clean our wool rug?
We test it first. Wool takes less water and gentler chemistry than carpet, and some rugs, especially silk, viscose or anything with an unstable dye, are better off going to a specialist rug plant. If yours is one of those we will tell you at the walkthrough rather than find out the hard way on your living room floor.
4. Will the stains come out?
Most will. Food, mud, coffee and general traffic soil usually lift completely. Dye based spills, bleach, rust and anything already scrubbed hard with a supermarket spot cleaner are the difficult ones, and some are permanent. We will tell you which is which before we quote, not after.
5. What happens if I get in touch?
We look at the floors, test the fibre and tell you what will lift and what will not. Then you get a price. If it suits, we book a time, and we can put it on a schedule with your regular clean so you never have to think about it again.
6. Is it worth paying someone, or should we just hire a machine?
A hire machine will lift surface soil and it is better than nothing. What it will not do is heat the water properly, put it in under real pressure or pull most of it back out, and that last part is what matters. A carpet left too wet is the problem, not the dirt. Most of the damage we get called to fix was done by a hire machine used with the best intentions and too much water, so if you do hire one, use half the solution you think you need and twice the dry passes.
Carpet cleaning questions
1. How often should carpet be cleaned in a home?
Once a year suits most households. Make it every six months with pets, small children, or a house that opens straight onto sand or a paddock, and you can stretch to eighteen months in a quiet home with hard floors through the middle. Vacuuming weekly does more for the life of a carpet than anything else, and it is what decides how long between deep cleans.
2. Is steam cleaning the same as hot water extraction?
Yes. The two names describe one method: heated water and solution injected into the pile under pressure and vacuumed straight back out with the soil in it. No actual steam is involved, and nothing is being sterilised. Dry cleaning and encapsulation are genuinely different methods, lighter and faster to dry, and they suit maintenance between extraction cleans rather than replacing them.
3. Can carpet cleaning shrink a rug?
It can, and this is where most rug damage comes from. Wool and other natural fibres absorb far more water than synthetics, and a rug that is soaked like a fitted carpet can shrink, cockle at the edges or bleed dye between colours. Natural fibres need less moisture, gentler chemistry and controlled drying, which is why any competent cleaner tests the fibre before starting.
4. Does carpet cleaning get rid of pet smells?
Often, but not always, and be wary of anyone who promises it outright. Surface cleaning lifts what is in the pile. Urine soaks through to the backing and frequently into the underlay and the floor beneath, and once it is there a surface clean will not reach it. That needs sub-surface treatment, and in bad cases replacing the underlay is the only honest answer.
5. How much does carpet cleaning cost?
Home carpet cleaning is usually priced per room or per square metre, with a minimum charge for a small job, and rugs are usually quoted separately by size and fibre. What moves the price is the area, the condition, whether furniture has to be moved and whether any spot treatment is needed. That's why we quote rather than publish a flat rate that would be wrong for most homes. Tell us the basics and you'll have a price back quickly, with no obligation attached to it.
